How to Choose the Right Gate Valve for Water and Sewage Networks: F4 or F5, EPDM or NBR? (ECOVALVE™)
How to Choose the Right Gate Valve for Water and Sewage Networks: F4 or F5, EPDM or NBR?
In the design and operation of water supply and sewage networks, a single detail can determine the reliability of an entire pipeline section: the right choice of shut-off valve. At Aeon, we have been designing and manufacturing fittings for water, gas and fire protection infrastructure for over 25 years.
EPDM or NBR?
Drinking Water and Water Supply Networks
For water supply applications, EPDM is the standard choice. In the water versions of ECOVALVE™ gate valves, the wedge is fully rubber-coated with EPDM.
Sewage and Chemically Neutral Media
For sewage networks and many chemically neutral fluids, NBR is the frequent choice. In ECOVALVE™ sewage gate valves, the wedge is fully rubber-coated with NBR.
F4 or F5: Face-to-Face Length
F4 and F5 are different face-to-face lengths per PN-EN 558-1 (Series 14 and 15). Choose F4 for shorter installation space, F5 when the project standard mandates a longer series.
ECOVALVE™ Design Features
- Full-bore, fully rubber-coated wedge (EPDM/NBR) from ductile iron
- Three spindle sealing rings plus dust seal ring
- Reinforced construction from ductile iron EN-GJS-500-7, stainless steel spindle X20Cr13
- Slide inserts in the wedge
- In selected versions: spindle seal replacement under pressure without disassembly
Coating and Traceability
Electrostatically applied epoxy coating min. 250 μm, every product tested before delivery. Full traceability via QR code simplifies inventory management, service and as-built documentation.
Quick Selection Checklist
- Medium: drinking water / sewage / chemically neutral fluids
- Elastomer: EPDM (water) or NBR (sewage)
- Pressure: e.g. PN16 / 16 bar
- Operating temperature: up to +70°C or +85°C
- Face-to-face length: F4 or F5 per project
- Flanges: PN-EN 1092-2, PN-EN 1074, PN-EN 1171
